Tibial Osteotomy (Open Wedge Method)
A tibial osteotomy is performed to correct misalignment in the knee, often caused by arthritis or uneven wear of the joint. The open wedge method involves cutting the upper shinbone (tibia) and creating a small opening that is filled with bone graft or a plate.
This shifts weight away from the damaged part of the knee, relieving pain and slowing progression of arthritis. It is often recommended for younger, active patients who want to delay joint replacement.
