Electromyography (EMG)
Electromyography, or EMG, is a diagnostic test that evaluates how well your nerves and muscles are functioning. During the test, small sensors are placed on the skin and fine needles are used in certain muscles to measure electrical activity. This allows your provider to see how signals travel between nerves and muscles, both at rest and during movement.
The results of an EMG can help identify problems like nerve compression, pinched nerves, or muscle weakness. It is often ordered when symptoms such as tingling, numbness, or unexplained weakness are present. By pinpointing the source of your symptoms, EMG testing provides valuable information that helps guide your treatment plan.
